Kids Room

Kids' rugs for floor play

Little ones spend a huge part of the day playing, reading and discovering the world right there on the floor. For those hours of play to be as comfortable as possible, a cushioned surface that softens their movements and lets them move around freely is essential.

Our kids' rugs provide that cushioned layer of natural fibre that protects babies during the crawling stage and keeps up with older kids' play. Hand-woven exclusively with non-toxic materials and natural dyes free from harmful substances, our pieces guarantee gentle contact that's kind to even the most delicate skin, creating a comfortable safe haven for play.

Hard-wearing rugs, ready for everyday accidents

Paint, play dough, spilled milk or biscuit crumbs are all part of everyday life in a kids' room. Dealing with those stains shouldn't mean reaching for harsh products, or giving up on a well put-together bedroom for your kids.

At Lorena Canals we've made everyday maintenance as simple as possible: when the rug gets dirty, there's no scrubbing by hand and no need to send it out for cleaning. Just pick up your cotton or wool rug and pop it straight in the washing machine to bring back its freshness and hygiene. The strength of our handmade natural fibres means it can be washed cycle after cycle, keeping the softness of the texture and the vibrancy of the colours intact over time.

How to choose the right rug size for your kids' play space

The versatility of Lorena Canals' sizes lets you scale the room to suit each stage of growing up. To create a crawling corner in front of the cot or a cosy reading nook, our compact kids' rugs — in sizes like 100 x 140 cm or 120 x 160 cm — offer just the right amount of play surface without overwhelming the room. Being extremely lightweight, they can be gathered up in one go and washed easily in any domestic machine.

In shared bedrooms or main play areas, Lorena Canals' larger kids' rugs — in sizes like 140 x 200 cm or 170 x 240 cm — help mark out the central area of the room. The continuous cotton or wool weave brings a calm, unified look to the space, offering a generous, cushioned canvas for play and family time.

If you're after something playful and a bit different, our kids' rugs with organic shapes, stars, clouds or round outlines make wonderfully charming focal points. Handmade with textured details, these shapes add visual energy to a kids' bedroom without getting in the way of movement or blocking drawers and wardrobes from opening.

Soft designs and palettes to nurture imagination at home

Kids' decor doesn't have to be over the top or overwhelm the senses. At Lorena Canals we believe in a considered aesthetic that sparks creativity through calm, combining neutral tones, pastel shades and delicate handmade textured details.

From subtle, nature-inspired designs and shapes to rugs with fun play paths or alphabets, every design is created to blend harmoniously with light wood furniture, wicker cots or Scandi-style rooms. The richness of our hand-woven textures awakens babies' sense of touch and supports kids' visual development, turning their bedroom into a much-loved space that grows right alongside them.

Handcrafted care and a commitment to your kids' environment

Choosing a Lorena Canals kids' rug means choosing a practical, safe textile for your kids' everyday life. We hand-weave every piece using only 100% natural cotton and pure wool, leaving synthetic fibres and plastics out of the process altogether. The result is a dense, hard-wearing product, built to withstand constant play without shedding fluff or wearing out with washing.

Being able to sort out food stains, paint or mud right in your own washing machine isn't just for the kids' room. At Lorena Canals, we apply the same handcrafted, washable approach to our collections for the living room, the main bedroom, hallways and the dining room, so you can keep the whole house looking its best just as easily.

Frequently asked questions about washable kids' rugs and mats

Are Lorena Canals kids' rugs safe for children?

Yes, our kids' rugs offer a completely safe play environment. They're handmade with natural fibres (cotton and pure WOOLABLE® wool) and dyes free from harmful substances, so they don't release any synthetic particles or plastics while kids play on them. Their dense weave stands up to little ones' daily pace, and the rug can be washed easily at home.

What happens if the kids' rug gets stained with paint, food or mud?

Lorena Canals' kids' rugs are designed for everyday use. If there's a spill or a stain from playtime, there's no need for harsh chemicals — just remove any surface mess and pop the rug straight into the washing machine. Made with high-quality natural cotton and wool, stains lift easily without setting into the fabric or fading the colours.

What thickness is best for a kids' play rug?

Our densely woven kids' rugs offer just the right firmness to keep up with little ones' daily activity. Handmade in cotton and washable wool, they provide a surface that's cushioned enough to sit and play on or soften small falls, while still being stable enough for kids to move around or push toys without tripping.

What size kids' rug should you choose for a small bedroom?

For smaller bedrooms or defined play areas, Lorena Canals' 100 x 140 cm sizes, or our round and organic-shaped designs, are the ideal solution. They add a comforting play area beside the bed or cot without overwhelming the space, and wash easily in a standard 6-8kg washing machine.
