Cotton or wool rug: choose the material for your living room

Each material brings a different feel to the space, so the choice comes down to the finish and use you're after for your living room. What's more, the weave of your rug completely shapes its personality and warmth.

If you're after something versatile and light, cotton living room rugs are a practical option. Handmade, they offer a soft feel and details like texture or fringing that add character to the room. They also suit any style thanks to the range of colours available: from natural, neutral tones that make the space feel bigger, to multicoloured designs that are perfect for contrasting with a plain sofa or wooden furniture.

On the other hand, if you're after a more textured step, our wool rugs bring more volume and a particularly warm feel underfoot. Made from wool, and in many cases keeping the fibre's original, undyed tones, they're an ideal choice for living rooms after a finish with more presence and texture, without giving up on comfort or durability.

Designs built for your everyday life

Between get-togethers, relaxing moments and everyday movement, the living room needs pieces that keep pace with it without losing any comfort or style. Footsteps, gatherings, kids, pets or the occasional spill are all part of everyday life. That's why at Lorena Canals we design rugs that combine style and function, built to decorate the space without turning maintenance into a worry.

Washable rugs to simplify everyday use

A living room rug is constantly exposed to everyday use and stains. That's why we created the washable rug concept, with cotton and wool designs that can be machine-washed, always following the specific instructions for each piece. That way you can keep the rug clean at home, as long as its size suits your washing machine's capacity.

Natural fibres and long-lasting finishes

Wear from constant use calls for materials that can really hold up. Our rugs are handmade using natural fibres like cotton and wool, incorporating recycled cotton and non-toxic dyes. This approach guarantees a piece that can withstand everyday life, while also ensuring a hypoallergenic, safe environment so the whole family can enjoy the floor with peace of mind.

Handcrafted style that fits right into the living room

It can sometimes be tricky to find a piece that doesn't clash with your furniture. Because our rugs are handcrafted, each one has subtle variations that make it unique and easy to work into a room. Thanks to our range of shapes, colours and textures, it's easy to find the right visual balance, whether that's complementing light upholstery, adding volume next to a straight-lined table, or brightening up a dark wooden floor.

Beige, grey and multicoloured rugs for your living room

In our collection you'll find beige and natural-toned rugs that pair easily with light sofas, wooden furniture and neutral palettes. We also offer grey designs, with texture and a range of woven finishes, for those after a more understated, easy-to-style look.

If you'd like the rug to take more of a starring role, choose from our multicoloured designs or options in blue and green tones. These work especially well alongside plain sofas, letting you add contrast without needing to change the rest of your furniture.

Before choosing, also think about the colour of the floor. A rug in a similar range will create a more uniform look, while a contrasting tone will help the design, shape and edges of the rug really stand out.

Rectangular, round and curved shapes

At Lorena Canals you'll find living room rugs in a wide range of sizes, designed to suit both small spaces and larger living areas. Among the rectangular shapes, you'll find sizes like 140 x 200 cm, 170 x 240 cm and 200 x 300 cm, plus even larger options in certain cotton and wool designs. That means you can choose a more compact rug to define a specific area, or a larger one to bring together the whole sofa, armchair and coffee table setup.

The collection also includes round rugs in a range of diameters, from more compact sizes like Ø 120 cm or Ø 180 cm to larger options of Ø 240 cm, Ø 250 cm or Ø 300 cm, depending on the design. And if you're after something different, we offer a curved-outline option in 150 x 200 cm, perfect for both specific corners and larger living areas.

Before buying, measure the space you want to cover and compare the different sizes available for each design. If you want the sofa's front legs to sit on the rug, also factor in the width of armchairs and other furniture in the living area, so you choose a size that's well proportioned to the whole setup.

Why buy your living room rug from Lorena Canals

We design our own collections and make our rugs by hand in our workshop in India. Our artisans work the textures and sew in details like embroidery and fringing to achieve each design's finish.

Every rug carries our embroidered signature on the back and a certificate of authenticity. These details mark it out as an original Lorena Canals creation and reflect the handcrafted work behind it.

You might choose a rug for its pattern, the natural colour of the wool, or how well it goes with your sofa. Both our cotton and wool designs also come with the option of machine washing, following their care instructions. Discover the collection and choose the material, shape and size you want for your living room.

Warmth and design for every corner of your home

That way, you can bring the comfort of a washable rug beside the bed, add warmth to a hallway, or complete your entrance with a piece that best fits the needs of each space.

Frequently asked questions about washable living room rugs

What rug colour goes with a grey sofa?

Beige and natural tones work well if you're after a soft combination. To add contrast, you could choose blue, green or a multicoloured design that includes grey. Also think about the colour of the floor when deciding how much you want the rug to stand out.

What size rug should you choose for a three-seater sofa?

For a three-seater sofa, look for a rug wide enough to visually cover the whole seating area, and, if possible, let the sofa's front legs rest on it. Our collection includes a range of sizes to suit both compact living rooms and larger living areas. Before choosing, measure the sofa and the available space on each side, and compare those measurements with the ones listed on each product page.

Can I buy round wool rugs from Lorena Canals?

Yes, our living room selection includes round wool rugs in natural tones. You can check the diameters available for each design and choose a size to suit the sofa area or a corner with an armchair.

Can there be differences between two rugs of the same design?

Yes. Our rugs are handcrafted, so there can be small variations in colour, texture or size between one piece and another. These differences are simply part of the making process, and they make every rug slightly unique. If you're planning to use two rugs of the same design in the same room, it's worth bearing this in mind when you buy.

Are Lorena Canals' wool rugs machine-washable too?

Yes, our wool rugs are machine-washable too. The capacity needed and the care instructions depend on the design and size. Check the information on the product page before buying, to see exactly what your chosen rug needs.
